the ex-Buffy villain in query is James Marsters

OK, so the title above isn’t a lot a setup for a hilarious joke as a ham-handed introduction to four recently revealed souls — specialty subclasses — from Rift: Planes of Telara. MMORPG.com unveiled these never-before-seen souls over the past week.

So a Warlord, a Stormcaller as well as a Justicar walked in to a Rift…

Continuing with Trion Worlds’ worldwide promotional tour for Rift, Eurogamer wrote up a spiffy hands-on piece while Germany’s Gameswelt.TV interviewed design producer Hal Hanlin. You can watch the latter after the jump!

The Warlord is a melee soul that focuses more on controlling the tide of battle by buffing allies & debuffing the enemy, but can get in over her head quickly if separated from the pack. If you’ve always been partial to battle clerics, then the Justicar is right up your alley — they is a powerful front-line fighter who builds up healing power through fighting, which can then be used to restore others. Finally, the Stormcaller is a mage specialty who makes use of a potent mix of air & water magic to call down the thunder on her foes.

Riddle me this: what do an ex-Buffy villain, Wonder Woman, & Black Adam have in common? The answer is, not much, aside from the fact that they’re all starring in a pair of new DC Universe Online promotional videos. Now, before any purists get up in arms, the ex-Buffy villain in query is James Marsters, better to known to some as the vampire Spike. While they won’t be bringing his fangs & smashing British accent to Metropolis or Gotham City, they will be voicing the nefarious Lex Luthor, & SOE has released a four minute clip featuring gameplay footage & interviews with the actor.

DC Universe shows off iconic suits & James Marsters

Wonder Woman & Black Adam take middle stage in the second clip, which focuses on the iconic armor suits available to players in the game. Whether your DC legend is a hero or a villain, unlocking the power & status of one of these endgame suits looks to be one the game’s progression goals according to the video narrated by game director Chris Cao.
